In a harmonious blend of cultural reverence and environmental sensitivity, the Treng-Treng Promenade emerges as an eloquent testament to the collaborative spirit of the Chile-Mexico bilateral fund. This initiative, aimed at enhancing education and appreciation of estuaries and wetlands, draws upon the rich tapestry of indigenous narratives that weave through the landscapes of Araucanía in Chile and Baja California in Mexico. Here, amidst the verdant embrace of Queule's wetlands and the storied Isle of Pines, the Mapuche Lafquenche communities—People of the Sea—have long thrived, their presence a living testament to the symbiotic dance of nature and culture.

The architectural conception of the promenade is deeply rooted in the socio-cultural and geographical nuances of the region, echoing the seismic shifts wrought by the cataclysmic 1960 earthquake—the most powerful recorded in history. This natural upheaval not only reshaped the physical terrain but also underscored the profound mythological narratives of the Mapuche. Central to this mythology is the tale of Kai Kai and Treng Treng, emblematic serpents of water and earth, whose eternal interplay signifies the dynamic balance between the forces of nature and humanity's place within it.

Named in homage to Treng Treng, the earth serpent, the promenade embodies this mythological dialogue, a sinuous path that gracefully unfurls across the land, reaching towards the watery realm of Kai Kai. This architectural gesture invites visitors to partake in an immersive journey—a pilgrimage of sorts—into the heart of Araucanía's natural splendor. The design deftly negotiates the challenges of a flood-prone site, situated at the confluence of Queule River and its wetlands, adjacent to a bustling vehicular ferry route servicing the Isle of Pines. Here, the juxtaposition of human activity and avian sanctuary presents both a challenge and an opportunity, with the promenade offering an unparalleled vantage for observing the vibrant avifauna, both endemic and migratory.

The pedestrian pathway, crafted with universal accessibility in mind, subtly diverges from the vehicular route, guiding visitors into an experiential embrace of the surrounding nature. As one progresses towards the riverbank, a gradual detachment from the mechanized world occurs, culminating in the seclusion of the observation deck. Here, the architecture provides lateral protection, crafting an intimate space that shields from the southern road while offering a discreet vantage for bird watchers to the north. This careful orchestration of space and perspective ensures an uninterrupted communion with the natural world.

Throughout the promenade, a series of six meticulously curated panels intertwine scientific insights with ancestral wisdom, illuminating the ecological and cultural significance of Araucanía's coastal wetlands. These narratives enrich the visitor's journey, offering a profound understanding of the delicate equilibrium that sustains this unique ecosystem. As the promenade unfolds, it invites reflection—a contemplative pause amidst the gentle cadence of nature.
